St. Moritz

I am a first time skier and was happy to learn in St. Moritz, Switzerland (the ugly “nouveaux rich” sibling of the Engadine village). Our main objective was to ski and I to learn how.

I took three days of  *private lessons at Schweizer Skischule. Lessons are held on Salastrains which you arrive at by a horse driven carriage. Very nice touch as at this point you are able to see the breathtaking view of snow covered mountains. You don’t see that in New York City!

My first day of lessons consist of learning how brake, make my skies parallel (linguini),  and something called pizza. Second day I moved to a much steeper slope and  learned how to glide, turn and control my speed. Final day, I was very comfortable and was able to ski down to the main arrival area.

*Please ask for Presca. What a fantastic teacher.

 Evenings

Late dinners are our passion (10pm). In St. Moritz we were not so fortunate. The only place that could accommodate us is seems was Dolce Vita  restaurant. I had zero qualms about eating there for two days. After all it was OUR fault for not planning ahead.

We managed to plan ahead our last night and made reservations to Rotisserie des Chevaliers located in the Kulm Hotel.  At first view, I was not impressed with the decor and service. We were being asked to view the menu and place our main course choice BEFORE we were seated to our table. This made me a bit unhappy but later learned that the kitchen was preparing to close when we arrived.  Poor excuse. Needless to say the service was under par for a luxury hotel; however, the food was magnificent ( I really cant recall what my meal consisted of but it was delicious).

After dinner we ventured to the legendary Kings Club. What a treat. With the plasma screen behind us showing the Dom Perignon for Karl Lagerfeld campaign we ventured to the dance floor. My boyfriend was shocked to see me move as I was in my Louboutin. I laughed and motioned back to our table for more bubbly.

It was a good evening.
